Acid Mine Drainage

Geological Evaluation

TerrAtlantic has evaluated acid drainage issues at many sites in Atlantic Canada for mining companies and governments. The process usually begins with geological mapping and with observations of any impacts to the surface drainage systems.

Geochemical Assessment

Our personnel evaluated the hydrologic setting of the Fire Road mine site near Minto, NB. The Specialist Consultant reviewed and modeled the water chemistry data to determine long term trends in the acid generation process and to assess the effect of the injection of treatment sludge into the acid generating area.

Predictive Modeling

TerrAtlantic's Specialist Consultant has provided overall technical direction and project management associated with the development of environmental solutions for proposed, operating, and shutdown mining and metallurgical operations.

Expertise is provided in all aspects related to: (a) the control of storm runoff, (b) the treatment of process effluents, (c) the field investigations, theoretical prediction, and treatment of acid rock drainage, and (d) receiving-stream water quality modeling.

Long-term Monitoring

Our staff has evaluated acid drainage generation at numerous highway construction sites in New Brunswick for NBDOT, and has undertaken long term monitoring of the associated surface water and groundwater quality.
