Mine and Quarry Development
TerrAtlantic's geotechnical engineers have provided services to the mining industry at a number of sites and for a variety of geotechnical issues including resource quantity and quality, operational logistics, slope stability, foundations for processing facilities, diversion channels, holding ponds and the design of tailings dams. Typically, these services are provided in combination with our environmental and hydrogeological services.
Typical Projects:
- Preliminary siting and design of 30 m high, 6 km long tailings dams to contain more than 120 million m3 of tailings at the proposed Sisson Brook mine in central New Brunswick.
- Provision of all geotechnical and hydrogeological input as part of the evaluation of a proposed 100 million tonne quarry expansion in southern New Brunswick.
- Preparation of the mine plan for the extension to the Morrison Quarry at CFB Gagetown. The work involved geological mapping, exploratory drilling, laboratory testing and the consideration of geotechnical issues including rock slope stability.
- TerrAtlantic has undertaken a number of projects for NBDNR including the evaluation of slate resources in northwestern New Brunswick.
- Evaluation of peat reserves in northeastern New Brunswick in connection with a prospective acquisition. The work involved mapping, field truthing, quality assessment and volume calculations.
