Laboratory Testing

TerrAtlantic has significant capabilities with the laboratory testing of soil and rock. A number of highly-specialized tests for the evaluation of geotechnical properties of a wide range of materials can be conducted in our state-of-the-art geotechnical laboratory. These services include:

Shear Strength Evaluation

  • Triaxial testing of sand and clay samples up to 4" in diameter (ASTM D2850)
  • Triaxial testing under zero lateral strain (Ko) conditions
  • Direct Shear testing of sands (ASTM D3080)
  • Simple Shear testing of organics and soft clays
  • Unconfined compression testing of cohesive soils (ASTM D2166)

Hydraulic Conductivity Evaluation

  • Flexible wall permeameter testing of low permeability soils (ASTM D5084)
  • Rigid wall permeameter tesing of low permeability soils
  • Constant head permeameter testing of granular soils (ASTM D2434)

Other Laboratory Tests

  • Grain size analysis including hydrometer (ASTM D422)
  • Atterberg Limits (D4318)
  • Standard and Modified Proctor compaction tests (ASTM D698)
  • Consolidation testing (ASTM D2435)
  • California Bearing Ratio (ASTM D1883)
  • Point Load (Brazilian) Testing
  • Data Acquisition and Processing including continuous pressure, load and displacement monitoring.
